First-year teacher grants

A little extra support for the start of your teaching career.

Starting your first year as a teacher is exciting and comes with plenty of expenses. The KSD Education Foundation provides a $250 First-Year Teacher Grant to help new teachers set up their classrooms and create a welcoming, engaging learning environment for their students.

NO APPLICATION REQUIRED

If this is your first year as a teacher, you automatically qualify for the grant. There is no application to complete.

You do not have to be new to Kearney School District. The grant is based on being new to the teaching profession, not new to KSD.

Substitute teaching does not count as prior teaching experience for purposes of this grant. If you are beginning your first year in a regular teaching position, you still qualify.

WHAT CAN THE GRANT BE USED FOR?

Your $250 grant can be used for items that help you create a classroom where students can learn, feel welcome, and thrive.

Eligible uses may include:

• Classroom supplies and instructional materials

• Books and learning resources

• Hands-on learning materials

• Technology or classroom tools

• Organizational supplies

• Classroom décor and furnishings

• Other items that support your classroom and students

Use the grant for the things that will make the biggest difference in your classroom and help you create a space that works for you and your students.

HOW TO USE YOUR GRANT

Your Certificate

KSDEF will present your First-Year Teacher Grant certificate at Convocation to recognize and welcome you to the teaching profession.

Using Your Funds

Grant funds may be used from August 1 through December 31 of the grant year.

Work with your building secretary to make purchases as you normally would. Use the following account code: 001-1411-6411-xxxx-00091-1(Replace “xxxx” with your building's four-digit code).

You do not need to submit a separate application or reimbursement request to KSDEF.
